I could give more money than I do, but I'm working on building up an emergency fund because I know I'll be changing jobs (and cities) within the next year. However, I do spend 6 to 10 hours a week at a local nonprofit, and I'm even putting together a series of personal finance workshops that I'll be teaching low- and fixed-income people in our area. I think that the value of the workshops will be many times greater than the dollar amount I could give right now. I don't give 10%, but I do give as much time as they ask me for, and I think that counts for something.
