In case you haven't read it, 'Women Don't ask' is an interesting book on the subject of women and why they don't negotiate salaries (among other things.)<BR/><BR/>I have heard that asking for a raise can be a bit of a catch-22 for some women, because while men who negotiate their salaries are perceived more positively, women who do are perceived more negatively.
