Superstition

I was trying to do some quick thumbnail calculations this afternoon on whether I could shove any more money into savings at the end of the month. I needed a pen and some scratch paper. But the only pen I could find was red and I refused to use it. I went from room to room hunting for a different pen. Totally irrational. But I cannot use a red pen to write down anything about money. The reptile part of my brain simply will not let me. I must have internalized the phrase "in the red" a little too literally.

What are your money superstitions?

I'm somewhat surprised you use pen and paper instead of Excel or a google spreadsheet.

I'm not sure if it's a superstition, but I only pay bills on Monday, under the theory that I wouldn't want to ruin a perfectly good day, and Mondays are never any good anyway.

When I find myself unable to pay my full credit card balance, I always try to pay the tens and ones columns and the cents so that the remaining balance is an even multiple of 100. For some reason that feels more like I'm paying my credit card but giving myself a little loan, whereas leaving an odd number of dollars and cents sticking on the end would feel like I was just chucking a couple dollars at a debt.
